Guiding Principles
Racial Equality Is Possible
Race is a social construct, not a biological reality, and multiple forms of racism uniquely impact each racialised group. We believe in the possibility of achieving racial equality by recognising and addressing the specific challenges faced by each community.
Knowledge is Power
A core aspect of the specific racism that Black people face is their near-total exclusion from knowledge production and knowledge-producing professions in Britain. We aim to build epistemic power within Black communities and foster recognition of the wisdom and knowledge that communities possess. By centring the conceptual and interpretive resources of Black communities, we seek to create a paradigm shift in approaches to meaningful and enduring systems change.
No Gatekeeping
We use data and research as tools for empowerment. By making data accessible and relevant, we foster informed public discourse on social issues, enabling communities to engage with and tackle the challenges they face. We are deeply aligned with the Open Source and Open Science movements, ensuring that our methods and materials are always publicly available for reuse, reanalysis, and reinterpretation. We do not gatekeep.
We Centre Communities, Not Ourselves
We are a support function for Black communities and organisations. We aim to provide the tools, resources, and evidence needed to advocate for change. We are committed to working in partnership with Black communities to ensure that our work is relevant, impactful, and empowering.
